Deviated By Justin Giunta

Look As Strong As You Feel

by: Gallery Atlantic Staff

Often when a designer deviates from creating expensive lines for high income clientele, much of the substance is lost in the interests of decreasing prices. The results can be derivative, (the Isaac Mizrahi line for Target comes to mind) or just plain tasteless. Not so for Justin Giunta's Deviated by Justin Giunta Collection.

Deviated by Justin Giunta is inspired by the designer's Subversive Jewelry line, which follows the idiom that “more is more,” exhibited by nests of antique chains, oversized baubles and beaded accents. As designers go, Justin Giunta has a client roster that would make any artist's mouth water. His accomplished understanding of color and texture has made him a favorite with the MTV jet-set and has caught the eye of the modern aristocrat, most notably Queen Noor of Jordan. Giunta's bold designs have graced the pages of Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Glamour and can be seen adorning women in every corner of the fashion world. Justin Giunta's creations are a testimony to the principle that jewelry is not simply an adornment, but a necessity.

Unlike the Subversive Jewelry Collection, Deviated by Justin Giunta conveys a stronger, more urban message.  In the Deviated collection, barbed wire, bicycle chains and asymmetrical forms are used to express a gutsy and innovative stance: women are allowed to be hard, and look it too. Giunta has a unique gift of seamlessly blending opposites, as illustrated by his use of delicately shaped box chains and precious metals.  Gone are the soft colored glass and the fairy tale style found in his earlier work. It is a line which is appropriate in the age of the empowered woman. It also happens to be more accessible to women who want to look as strong as they feel.
