Peek: Jewelry Trends for Fall 2010

Insider Scoop

by: Miriam Metz

What does fall 2010 have in store for jewelry fashions? Fall will be about eccentric contrasts, striking incongruity and vibrant, bold colors. Think warm, rich earth tones combined with fiery red and orange in almost surreal, dreamlike designs.

The powerful metallic look of 2010 will be continued, but will be set off with striking patterns, the more diverse the better and strong motifs. Try a metallic pendant designed by Jack Figle, combined with a chunky bracelet. Animal, coin and flower designs are going to be popular this fall; think unique and idiosyncratic. For instance, a jungle theme can be created with necklaces and bracelets with diverse shapes and patterns of elephant, snake and giraffe charms, and contrast this look with funky urban metals and graffiti pieces. Justin Giunta’s, Deviated Collection, will be ideal for fall, with his combination of warm primary colors or feminine pinks against a hard metallic backgrounds and his striking use of color and texture combinations.

Metal mixtures will be popular; shiny metals, which communicate opulence and power can be combined with burnished metals which are softer and more nostalgic. Try these mixtures in the same piece or with a burnished metal necklace and shiny earrings. Large earrings will be in style for the fall of 2010, but try light murano glass to combine a huge size with a lighter, playful look. Suzanna Dai’s Monte Carlo miniature diamond sparkles in the form of flowers and bows will be a perfect whimsical, classic and bold design for fall. These pieces will look stunning with this fall’s rich green and chocolate hues.

The colors for fall of 2010 will be deep earthy colors, like rich green and chocolate brown, but will be combined with wild oranges and reds. The false nude base of pale pink and beige can be set off with fiery designs and dreamlike images. Justin Giunta’s Subversive Jewelry captures the playfulness and eccentricity of the coming season with his pirate pearl necklace and earrings which look as if they have been fished from a drowned king’s treasure chest. Pearl strands of various shapes and sizes are draped, layered and graced with a brown skull atop the combination. Matching earrings pick up the skull and pearl strand theme. Fall’s floral theme is also expressed with Justin Giunta’s bold and pretty Spanish Goth necklace, with six medallions of various shades of roses placed on an elegant black background.
