Those intense, smoky eyes and exotic hues- gypsy style is so in right now! To achieve that beautiful bohemian look, it just takes a little know-how with your makeup and of course, the perfect accessories. The smoky eye is a style classic, the origins of which are steeped in bohemian tradition. Practicing the right technique when applying your make up can mean the difference between gypsy chic and hard candy hippy.
1. Begin by applying an eye shadow base color to the entire eyelid. Extend the stroke upward towards the brow bone.
2. Eyeliners come in a variety of applicators. For this look, it is best to use liquid eyeliner in kohl black. If you aren’t comfortable with liquid eyeliner pen, or do not have a steady hand, then apply a gel eye liner using an angle brush to create a precise line. Draw a line at the base of your bottom lashes. Draw a thicker line on the top lash line and wing it out as you reach the corners to create a cat-eye effect.
3. Line the waterline with a kohl pencil liner to deepen the outline of the eye.
4. Next, apply a powder shadow above the eye crease. Be creative with your color palette. Bright hues are your best bets: lavender, teal, or rose pink. Use a blending brush to bring the edge of the shadow upward, but avoid going too far. Leave a space of a finger's width below the arch of the brow. Apply the same hue to the inner corner of your bottom rim and blend it downward.
5. Apply a darker shadow over the top of the lid using a packing brush, and extend up to the crease of your eye. Finish the shadow in a point, above the cat-eye contour of the eyeliner. Blend the dark hue upward into the base hue using small strokes. Do not overlay the colors very much; try to limit the overlap. The colors should balance well, but the base color should still be distinctly visible.
6. Apply the darker eye shadow to the lower lid, along the outline of the eyeliner. Make tiny spirals with the blending brush to thicken the line and blend it downward.
7. Apply a highlighter color over the brow bone and blend it gently down into the base color by making small downward strokes. Dot a small amount of the highlighter on the inner corners of the eyes. 8. Use black mascara with a fine bristled brush to lengthen your lashes and avoid clumping. Finish this look off with by tying your hair back in a silk head scarf. If you are feeling adventurous with your adornments, let your hair dry naturally and weave a decorative beaded necklace into the strands, leaving the centrepiece to hang from your crown. Once you have achieved an alluring gypsy-style look, take your smoky eyes and let you fortune lead your way !
