Ippolita is named after its founder, Ippolita Rostagno, the daughter of an American artist mother and an Italian intellectual father. She was born and raised in Florence, Italy and enthusiastically immersed herself in the study of Renaissance art and architecture from a young age. She eventually earned a Baccalaureate in sculpture and the highly respected Instituto D'Arte in Florence. What sets Ippolita apart from other jewelry designers is her insistence that every piece is created by hand. Even her bangles, which often grace the famous wrists of Halle Barry, Minnie Driver, Kate Hudson and their celebrity peers are hand cast from original wax sculptures and the open-link chain used in Ippolita's earrings and necklaces are soldered by hand. Ippolita spent the first months as a jewelry designer developing her own signature gold color, a glowing shade that flatters every skin tone, from dark to light and in-between. Her aim was to imitate the gold hue of Ancient Rome to add a classic and yet understated natural touch. "Jewelry is emotional," says Ippolita, "The very color of my gold jewelry attracts you to it….my goal is to create jewelry that you really want to wear all the time, that is easy and makes you feel good…jewelry that is unintimidating and yet cool." While Ippolita keeps up to date on cutting edge fashion trends and incorporates the newest styles into her jewelry design, her main priority is to create classic pieces that never go out of style.
