Gallery Atlantic's Beth Bennett spoke with San Francisco-based fashion jewelry designer Liza Sonia about her inspirations, her current designs and her plans for the future. Learn a bit more about this talented jewelry designer in this exclusive one-on-one interview.

Gallery Atlantic: What are your plans for the future? What are you doing now?

Liza Sonia: "What I am thinking about doing right now is integrating jewelry and technology; specializing in different markets right now, creating a specialist market and considering how I can do it. Some of the stuff isn’t really public, I am still in the middle of the research, so I am not at liberty to say. The best way I can describe it is “jewelry that is made more unique by the addition of technology.”

Gallery Atlantic: Many designers are heavily influenced by where they live. How would you describe your city’s fashion and how is influences you?

Liza Sonia: "Basically, being in California you have access to so many different types of environments, whether it is something outdoors, there are just so many different chances to experience nature. I live in the city and yet within an hour I can (travel) and be in so many different physical environments.

That definitely influences my work. It is a very liberal area, the Bay Area. There aren’t any set colors or any set designs. It is sort of “anything goes.”

I find that the jewelry that receives the most positive responses are pieces that have an organic form. Everyone in California really likes organic shapes and I find that any color palette works. I am influenced by being in nature is and by living in the city. I think it gives way to very sophisticated designs."
