Popular jewelry designer Suzanna Dai has created a stunning new set inspired by old Hollywood: the Sunset Boulevard Collection. In order to capture the style and glamor of the Forties, Suzanna researched the most apropos fashions from the golden age of Tinsel Town. The 1950 film Sunset Boulevard, written by Billy Wilder, was universally praised by critics when it was released. The film's tragic female protagonist, Norma Desmond, is a starlet driven mad by the loss of both her fame and her beauty. It is considered to be one of the most noteworthy films of American cinema, particularly for it's aesthetic significance. As Sunset Boulevard was chosen for Best Art Direction at the 1950 Academy Awards, designer Suzanna Dai could not have chosen a more artistically lavish film to inspire her new jewelry collection.
Among the creative personnel in charge of ensuring Sunset Boulevard's authentic style, celebrated designer Edith Head headed up the film's costume design department. Head created the costumes to resemble the grand and alluring style of 1940's Dior. In order to accurately render the grandiose opulence of Norma Desmond, Head relied upon the actress who portrayed her, silent film star Gloria Swanson, to fill in the aesthetic embellishments that defined the character. Everything about Norma, from the draping cut of her clothing to the severely applied makeup, gives her character a kind of tangible drama.
Costume designer Edith Head once identified the captivating and tragic character of Norma Desmond as “an actress who has become lost in her own imagination.” Inspired by the iconic designs of Edith Head, Suzanna Dai's Sunset Boulevard Collection accurately, and sumptuously, represents the glory of Hollywood's bygone days.
Dai's deco-inspired Sunset Boulevard pewter earrings are made of opaque and sparkling rhinestone gems. Backed in grey suede, the earrings are held by sterling silver earring posts. Despite the numerous sequins and detailed handiwork, these earrings are remarkable lightweight and comfortable to wear!
The Sunset Boulevard Long Necklace is a beautifully intricate piece, made of shaped appliqués and medallions. The beaded rhinestone chain is accented with glittering rhinestone gems and backed in ivory leather.
