Spring 2009

Big bold and beautiful. This year is all about statement jewelry and "big bling" is in. The trend began in 2008 and has just got bigger. Three threads seem to weave through this year's collections of designer jewelry:

•    Geometric shapes
•    Exotic and ethnic inspirations
•    Rich colours; prominent stones and gems

Very exotic, very rich and of course, big, here's a ring from Christian Dior's 2009 collection:

The curves and arabesques are complemented by small balls on chains that gives them free movement as you move your hands.  A more geometric and vintage approach is apparent in this "noeud" bracelet from Christian Lacroix:

A two toned pink bracelet simulating a cloth band wrapped several times around the wrist and then tied. It has the true spirit of this year's whacky jewelry.

A hot trend that continues this summer is beads – big, chunky, wooden or otherwise. Multi-stranded bead necklaces are de rigeur, like this one from Marlene Birger:

It has a unique bohemian chic with colorful blue stone beads on a leather stripe, guaranteed to make you noticeable.  Galley has more news on the topic of  latest jewelry trends from Karin Kloosterman.
